Belinda Pratten Week Two
Task
Questoin One: What is the earliest reference of Photography?
In 11th
century Egypt, Ibn al-Haitham (Alhazen), created the Camera Obscura, with the
idea and concept courtesy of researchers from Aristotle 300BC. The Camera
Obscura was relatively small dark room or box which had a hole on one wall. A
reversed image of the surroundings outside the hole would appear on the
opposite wall. Artists could then trace this image onto the canvas or material
hung on the wall. The Camera Obscura was significant in the progression of
photography leading to Joseph Nicéphore Niépce’s breakthrough in 1826
when he created the process named ‘heliography’, which was the first practice
used to capture the earliest known photograph.
Question Two: Who created the first camera obscura?
(As above) In 11th
century Egypt, Ibn al-Haitham (Alhazen), created the Camera Obscura, with the
idea and concept courtesy of researchers from Aristotle 300BC.
Question Three: Draw a diagram showing how a pin-hole camera works.
See hard copy in personal folder for drawing.
Question Four: Who was the person responsible for the first permanent
camera image.
Joseph Nicéphore Niépce’s in 1826.
Question Five: What are two ways to control the amount
of exposure of a photograph?
ISO and shutter speed,
Question Six: Name two shutter types and briefly explain how they
operate.
Electronic Shutters simply turn on and off.
Mechanical Shutters focal plane shutter or leaf
shutter, the focal plane shutter works by travelling in front of the digital
image sensor, it works by opening one plane to begin the exposure and closing
another to end it.
Question Seven: What is an f-stop?
The f. controls how much light is “allowed” to
touch the sensor at any one time, if the sensor is open ie. 1.6 a lot of light
is let through but if the sensor is closed down ie. 14 a smaller amount of
light passes through.
Question Eight: What is an f-number?
Same as an f.
Question Nine: What does exposure mean?
The total amount of light allowed to land on the
image sensor or film.
Question Ten: If exposure = time x intensity, what does time stand for
and what does intensity stand for? (hint look at question 5)
Shutter speed = time
ISO = intensity
